That is how one of the most famous letters of all time began.  The response from the editor of the New York Sun in September of 1897 is one of the best messages about the meaning of the Christmas season ever written.  Since no one could ever top this editorial, I share it with you here.  A copy of the original editorial from the New York Sun, September 21, 1897.  Enjoy, and a very Merry Christmas to everyone.
